Typically when our favorite television characters get engaged, it’s almost as exciting as if one of our best friends were the ones walking down the aisle. What makes these proposals so much more memorable than proposals in movies is that the development of each and every character and their arcs allows the audience to invest in these relationships.

I’ve listed below my top 5 marriage proposal moments from my favorite comedy television shows.

5. Michael And Holly – “The Office”

“YES!” That’s what she [Holly] said.

What’s not to love about Michael Scott? Is he aloof sometimes? Obviously. Does he drive everyone else around him bonkers at times? Of course. Is there anyone else on earth more perfect for him that Holly? Not at all. She compliments his weirdness in every single way and for someone that jokes around all the time, this proposal was perfectly executed and extremely thought out.

4. Ben and Leslie – “Parks and Recreation”

As Chris Traeger would say “Ben and Leslie are LITERALLY the cutest couple I have ever seen!” There really is no other way to describe their relationship than cute with a proposal to match. From his heartfelt speech to her crying and her wanting to remember everything, this proposal was both funny and sweet in only a way that Parks and Recreation could pull off. If you can love someone as much as Leslie loved Ben, which is more than JJ’s Diner waffles, you’ve got it made.

3. Cory and Topanga – “Boy Meets World”

Growing up with Boy Meets World, Cory and Topanga were always the epitome of the perfect relationship to me and the couple you always rooted for. After all, if they didn’t work out, which relationship stood a chance? Although proposing during a high school graduation isn’t the most ideal time, the moment itself was so beautiful and much anticipated. The two eventually got married and conquered college together, and they truly made us believe in the idea of love.

2. Chandler and Monica – “Friends”

Could you ask for a sweeter statement below than when Chandler proposed to Monica (after Monica proposed to him)? They were meant for each other from the very beginning and made us hope for the same type of love.

“I thought that it mattered what I said or where I said it. Then I realized the only thing that matters is that you… you make me happier than I ever thought I could be. And if you’ll let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way. Monica, will you marry me?”

1. Jim and Pam – “The Office

The Office will always be one of my favorite shows of all time. As much as I love Michael Scott and all his eccentric behavior, I instantly fell in love with Jim and how much he loved Pam. Even when she was engaged to Roy, myself and everyone else watching rooted for them to end up together. After a full season of teasing Pam with proposal fake-outs, he couldn’t wait any longer and met her half-way at a gas station between Scranton and New York City in the dreary rain. It may not be the most elaborate proposal, but it’s such a “Jim” way to pop the question. Their expressions of pure happiness say it all.
